Categorizing the YA and NA Genres

These age categories appear across genres. For instance, young adult isn’t it’s own genre, even though there are hundreds of amazing book blogs dedicated to just the YA age category. So, what is it really?
From what I can tell, the YA/NA/A categories are really just age ratings. They’re kind of like movie ratings, letting you know what to expect in terms of violence or nudity or language. Still, beyond that, there are some distinct factors that dominate each category too much to ignore…
